Day 5 - Siena, Castellina In Chianti
After two wonderful and relaxing days in Montisi we loaded up the rental and headed north to Siena for the day on our way to our next stop, Colle Lungo in Castellina In Chianti. When we arrived in Siena it was a bit overcast and raining. We were certainly giving the two umbrellas we purchased on the street in Milan a workout. After parking at the Fortezza, we walked into town to the Piazza and spent some time checking out the shops, having some lunch and taking a tour of the Duomo. After we toured the Duomo, the sun came out, the rain stopped and the town came back to life. Siena was a beautiful town. After Siena, we hit the road again on our way to our Castellina In Chianti.

Arriving at the Piazza in Siena we were back in with the tourist crowd. A cold rain and no sun made it a perfect day to check out the inside of the Duomo.

|
Inside the Duomo, the walls were covered in sculpture and frescos.

One of the many impressive floor panels made from carved inlaid marble and granite. We were lucky to be here during one of the few times the floors were uncovered and on display.

Outside the Duomo in Siena we were greeted by sunshine!

Typical Siena street scene just off the Piazza.

We had a nice lunch here on the Piazza and did some serious people watching.

The Piazza warms up as the sun shines and the rain stops.

A view of the Duomo as we left town. Much of the front was under restoration.

Another masterpiece. I call it "Siena Door"
