Day 8 Monterosso al Mare
We arrived in Monterosso al Mare at about 4:00 in the afternoon. Monterosso al Mare is at the NW tip of the Cinque Terre. Armed with tour book knowledge, we parked our car in the central parking lot and walked our luggage to the hotel. The only vehicles in town are taxis and delivery trucks. Once you arrive in the Cinque Terre you travel in one of four ways. You walk, you hike, or you take the train that connects all five towns. You can also take the ferry that runs up and down the coast.
After checking in we walked around the town and checked out the markets, shops and some of the restaurants. The town is arranged in two sections, old town and new town. The two parts of town are connected by a pedestrian tunnel. Our hotel, Albergo Pasquale was located in old town just off the tunnel. We had a great room on the top floor overlooking the beach. Monterosso al Mare is the "beach resort" of the five towns with the biggest and best beaches. After checking out the town we took advantage of the nice front porch area in front of the hotel. The hotel does not have balconies so this became our place to relax and enjoy a bottle of wine as we made plans for our stay and watched the world pass by.

Our hotel, Albergo Pasquale was located in old town just off the tunnel. The hotel was very nice and our room included breakfast each morning.

At the north end of new town is a 45 foot tall statue Il Gigante. The statue looks like it was carved out of the cliff but it's actually made of concrete.

This was our view from the front patio of the hotel.
We ended each day here with a bottle of wine as Cindy researched our activities for
the next day and I enjoyed some more of those great cuban cigars.

Day nine started off with a beautiful sunrise outside our hotel window.
Now it's time to hike!
