Mijas
Mijas is a wonderful little town filled with history and beautiful white washed buildings. Located on a mountainside, the road to Mijas is an adventure in itself. Once in town you will find a number of charming squares featuring restaurants and shops. One of the main attractions in Mijas is the Donkey Taxi. You can ride a donkey taxi through the streets of Mijas or you can ride in a cart pulled by a donkey. Since Mijas is a tourist destination it is very easy to get by without speaking Spanish. Most of the restaurants offer English menus. When shopping, the prices are clearly marked in Euros. When we visited, the Euro and the dollar were about 1 to 1.

Typical street extending off the square with more shops. You can also drive on these streets. You will find yourself moving up off the street to let cars pass by throughout the day. Many shops close for siesta from 2:00 to 4:00 or 5:00. Be sure to plan your day with this in mind. Since Mijas is a tourist attraction, many shops and restaurants do stay open through siesta.

Our favorite shop in Mijas. We spent a considerable amount of money in this shop.
They ship to the US so we did not have to carry any home with us. We purchased a complete table setting for four of hand made hand painted pottery. They speak very good English and they were very helpful.
