Ronda
We decided to stop off in Ronda as we headed west to Sevilla. One of the best parts of the trip was the road to Ronda. This long winding road travels up and through the mountains in a most precarious way. Most turns look out over valleys and mountains with little or no guardrails between you. We stopped at a number of locations along the way to take in the view. As we entered Ronda the town was alive with people. Ronda is separated by the "new" bridge into two distinct areas. To the south, the historical area and to the north the newer city and shopping areas. We parked the car and set off to cross the bridge on foot and check out some of the historical sites. The bridge is an incredible piece of history dating back as far as 1735 when the first bride was built in just nine months. The bridge collapsed shortly after completion killing 50 people. The new bridge began construction in 1751 and was completed in 1793. Over 40 years of construction and it stands intact today,
210 years later.
